Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt
in the progression from it to the full product?
In the progression from our preliminary task I feel that I
have learnt how continuity works and that due to this we applied in our film to
ensure that we didn’t break it and it ran smoothly. The preliminary task helped
me to learn how to use Premier Pro to ensure our films were edited properly.
Our main task was to create a new fiction film, which was
around two minutes long. I think that due to the preliminary task we had a
better understanding of how to successfully produce a film using the 180 degree
line. The preliminary task also made us aware how to use match on action whilst
editing. Our preliminary exercise allowed us to create a successful 2 minute
film that when showed appealed to the target audience and had effective. I
think as group we got better at noticing when continuity was broken, which
enabled us to fix our errors and it also allowed us to edit things like a
shot-reverse-shot more successfully.
The preliminary task contained simple and basic angles and
shots, so when it came to our main task as a group we had the confidence to
experiment with other more difficult angles that would improve our film, for
example we used a canted angle. The preliminary exercise also helped us
understand want certain angles were used for e.g. a high angle shows dominance.
I feel that overall there was big progression from the
preliminary task to the full product, as we were all more confident and had
come to grasp with the equipment in a way that allowed us to create a better
product that would appeal to our target audience.
