How did you attract/address your audience?

 

We feel our thriller film has successfully appealed to our target audience as we collected valuable research about what people think about our storyline. Our results clearly show that our target audience were interested in our thriller storyline due to the fact that most of the people who we asked were students and described our storyline as 'good', and some of the people we asked described it as 'interesting'. The thriller film we created was developed in response to the results we received from our pre-production questionnaire.

There are several aspects of our media product which appeal to our target audience of teenagers and young adults. For example, our main protagonists are college students. Therefore, our target audience can relate to the college students as they are similar ages. Another way we attracted our target audience is by dressing the characters in normal, working class clothing which will be similar to how our target audience members will dress. The location of our thriller film will also link in with this as its just an ordinary village, which could be similar to their village where they live. Therefore, our target audience will be able to relate to our characters in our thriller film through the mise en scene.

 

An additional way we attracted our target audience is by using interesting additions to our shots to make them appear more effective. For example, we used sound effects to make the scenes appear more realistic to the audience. At the beginning of our thriller film a low pitched drone is used to emphasise the sinister environment and sets up the mysterious atmosphere. We also used a scream sound effect which made the situation in our thriller film appear more realistic. These sound effects are conventional for thriller films and emphasises the realism of the film.

 

The first three minutes of our film reveals what situation has broken the equilibrium in our thriller film which will appeal greatly to the adrenaline junkies in our target audience. We reveal that one of the protagonists has been murdered which will create tension and appeal to our target audience as it will persuade them to carry on watching to see what will happen next. Our thriller film will offer escapism to our target audience as it takes them out of the real world and makes our thriller film appear realistic which will also make the audience want to carry on watching our media product.
