We feel that our media product successfully attracted the correct target audience, because of the valuable research that we collected about what people thought about our storyline and the age that those people where. Our pre-production research clearly shows that our target audience enjoyed our storyline. We can see this because most of our audience said that our storyline was 'ok' or 'good'. Some even described it as 'interesting' and 'great', the fact that there was no bad research showed that the storyline appealed to the people we wanted it to.
One way that we attracted our target audience was using a variety of shots to add to the verisimilitude of the film. For example we used Point Of View shots to give the audience the feeling that they at in this situation too. At the beginning of our film an through our title sequence we have a non-diegetic low pitched drone playing to add to the tense atmosphere of the whole film. The drone also brings across the point that the creepiness of the situation.
The main way that we attracted our target audience is through having our main protagonists as college students. This adds to the creepiness for the audience because the audience will be able to relate to the protagonists. We also decided to dress our characters in normal working class style clothes because this is the norm for college students again adding to the idea of the characters being relatable and the idea that something like this could happen to anyone, this is a large feature in the thriller films to make the characters relatable.
In the first three minutes of our film shows the murder of one of our protagonists. This breaks the equilibrium straight away which will appeal to any adrenaline junkies that watch our film. The fact that we don't know who kills Emma also gives our story an omniscient narrative which will appeal to anyone who enjoys thriller films because it means that they will be kept of the edge of their seat through the whole film, which is usually what happens during thriller films.
